With the FA Cup elsewhere this is only the 4th Premier League clash of the weekend. Liverpool are currently 4 points behind both Spurs and Man City so a win today could move us to within one.
Arsenal and Man Utd are a bit further behind us, but the Gunners could move ahead of Liverpool if they win their game in hand.
The reds were defeated 2-0 at Burnley back in August - with the Clarets enjoying the 6th best home record in the division. But Liverpool have the 3rd best home record and will be keen to maintain that.
Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson are unavailable for this game due to injury and fitness and Dejan Lovren may or may not come in to replace Ragnar Klavan.
Will Bobby Firmino be fit enough to start?
As it happened...
Liverpool's top scorer with 12 Premier League goals, Sadio Mane, is on the front cover of today's match programme
Bobby Firmino isn't in today's team due to injury - Origi comes in to replace him.
Team: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Klavan, Milner, Wijnaldum, Can, Lallana, Coutinho, Mane, Origi.
Subs: Karius, Moreno, Lucas, Wilson, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Woodburn.
Some people a bit concerned about the lack of strength on our bench - 4 defensive players and two young attackers.
It's been 6 years since Liverpool last lost an Anfield league game against a newly promoted side. That was in 2010-11 when Blackpool won.
The reds have won 12 and drawn 5 of those games since.
Burnley get us underway
Mane feeds the ball through to Coutinho inside the box but Michael Keane just manages to push the ball away from Liverpool's Brazilian forward.
Andre Gray, possibly offside, gets a cross into the box but Barnes can't reach the ball. Mignolet eventually catches a second attempt.
Liverpool 0-1 Burnley
Ashley Barnes gets the first goal of the game - sliding in unmarked at the back post. Poor start from the reds.
Burnley playing very physical and Liverpool just do not look up to it.
There was a question the other week about whether Liverpool had enough 'steel' and at the minute they are coming up short.
Coutinho corner low - put behind by a Burnley defender.
Corner number 2 is higher but put behind for another corner.
Corner number 3 - near post again and headed away and clear by Andre Gray.
It's been men v boys so far and Liverpool haven't been the men.
Andre Gray almost in again with a chance to make it 2-0 - allowed to twist and turn at the corner of the 6 yard box.
It's not much better. Coutinho, still on corner duty, yet again fails to get any power on the set piece and it is easily cleared at the near post.
James Milner takes a Liverpool corner and although it doesn't end in a goal this time it does look more dangerous than our previous attempts.
It's a yellow card for Ben Mee for a foul on Adam Lallana.
There is going to be a minimum 1 minute added time at the end of this first half.
Wijnaldum just before half time. 1-1.
Liverpool 1-1 Burnley
What a time to score - Wijnaldum - with a decent goalscoring record at home in the Premier League for both Newcastle and Liverpool gets an important equaliser.
Can Liverpool improve enough in the second half to not just hold off Burnley but get themselves in front?
No changes in personnel for either side at half time. Liverpool kicking towards the Kop in this half.
Liverpool have been marginally improved in this half. Passing looks a shade quicker and more accurate.
Coutinho though, still struggling.
Long throw into Liverpool's box and the reds can't deal with it - it falls to Barnes who fires one over the bar.
EMRE CAN with a 25 yarder that goes into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
Liverpool 2-1 Burnley
That Liverpool goal came just seconds after Phil Coutinho was subbed off and replaced by Ben Woodburn.
It's an interesting game now. Burnley look determined to get something out of this game - much more space opening up now. Mignolet punches a cross 30 yards.
Sean Dyche barking instructions from the bench. Mignolet called into action a couple of times with the away side pushing for an equaliser.
For Liverpool, Origi goes off and Lucas comes on.
For Burnley, Sam Vokes comes on for Andre Gray.
Lallana gets booked for criticising a referee decision.
Liverpool have gone off the boil since our second goal but there's a chance there - Mane should have done better.
Long ball from Mignolet - Mane receives the ball in the middle of the penalty area from Emre Can but Heaton tips over.
There is going to be 4 added minutes of this game.
Liverpool 2-1 Burnley
Disappointing performance but the reds 'won ugly' and are 1 point away from 2nd place in the Premier League.
