Owen’s 100 goals – the stats

Michael Owen became the 10^th Premiership player – although by no means the fastest – to reach 100 goals in the competition with his four-goal blast at the Hawthorns.

Owen’s 100^th goal came in his 185^th appearance for the Reds. Alan Shearer, Ian Wright, Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole all reached their century quicker than the Liverpool hitman.

Eighty-one of Owen’s 102 goals have come from his right foot, with just six via the head. But he has worked on using his left foot in recent seasons – 12 of the 54 goals he has scored since the start of 2000-01 have been with the left boot.

The England striker has done the vast majority of his best work inside the area, netting 94 of the 102 league strikes from within 18 yards.

Owen has only failed to score against two Premiership teams he has faced – Barnsley and Watford – while Newcastle have been a particularly favourite opponent, with 12 of his strikes coming in just eight meetings with the Magpies.
