Anfield: International round up

2010 World CupLiverpool players were in action all around the globe yesterday in a day filled with World Cup qualifiers.

England have qualified for the World Cup 2010 after their 8th consecutive victory over second placed Croatia. England won 5-1 and Steven Gerrard headed two of the goals. Glen Johnson also played providing an assist to Fat Frank Lampard.

Scotland won’t be going to the World Cup after Dirk Kuyt helped Holland to a 1-0 victory.

It was another shocker for Argentina and their captain Javier Mascherano who were beaten 1-0 by Paraguay. Argentina are now 5th in the group and look like they will have to go through a qualifying round to get to the World Cup.

Martin Skrtel put in another 90 minute shift with Slovakia as they beat Northern Ireland 2-0. Skrtel travelled back to Liverpool following last night’s game.

New face around Anfield, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, also put in a full appearance for Greece, in a 1-1 draw with Moldova.

Yossi Benayoun captained Israel in a 7-0 hammering of Luxembourg. Yossi has a strong chance of going to the World Cup next year.

And Andriy Voronin took part in a 0-0 draw in Belarus.

Finally, Fernando Torres played just under an hour as Spain tonked Estonia 3-0.
