Anfield: International round up

2010 World CupLiverpool players were in action all around the globe yesterday in a day filled with World Cup qualifiers.

England were involved in a friendly, beating Slovenia 2-1 at Wembley. Steven Gerrard played the first half only, during which time he fired the cross which led to Rooney’s penalty and almost scored a goal himself.  Glen Johnson played for the full game and while giving plenty of attacking impetus, allowed the cross which led to Slovenia’s consolation goal.

Another friendly game saw Holland take on Japan, a game in which they won 3-0. Dirk Kuyt started the game but didn’t register his name on the scoresheet.  Ryan Babel who was drafted in to the squad at the last minute, was an unused substitute.

New face around Anfield, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, also put in a full appearance for Greece, but they lost 2-0 away at Switzerland. The Greek’s play a 3-4-3 formation – and Kyrgiakos also picked up a yellow card in the game.

  1. Yes but we need a buyer with an interest in football, at least abramovic goes to the games to watch and probably knows the players names, not like that Korean ??fella that had an interest and couldn`t name one player and when that fell through went onto man city I think
P.S if you havn`t seen it already , go to youtube, look for Hitler parody of fifa ban for chelsea…..exelent 🙂

  2. More importantly none of the lads have come back with any injuries, yet. Hopefully none will during the midweek games either.

Good to see Skrtel playing again, should mean he’ll be fit for us again when we take on Burnley.

  3. To all Liverpool fans ; Tom Hicks is destroying our club and because he lives in Texas America is largely unaffected by anti Hicks protests being carried out over here. Our aim is to now bring the fight to Hicks and start affecting his daily life as he has been destroying ours. To do that we have selected one Texan sports radio station to highlight our plight. We feel if we can get enough anti Hicks messages through their airways they will have no choice but to highlight the issue over there. Protest against the Tom Hicks ownership of the club by following this link and leaving an anti Hicks protest comment on the right hand side of the homepage. http://www.sportsradio610.com
