Aquilani signs 5-year contract

Liverpool FC have confirmed that Alberto Aquilani has signed a 5-year deal with the Reds after passing a stringent medical.

There was some speculation earlier today that the deal had fallen through due to a snag in the medical procedure, but as has been confirmed, this is not the case.

As was expected, Alberto is now overcoming an injury he picked up last season, so for now we can only wish him a speedy recovery.

The official website said:

“Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that Alberto Aquilani has successfully completed a medical and agreed a 5-year contract with the club.

The player will now continue his rehabilitation from an ankle operation under the guidance of Liverpool’s medical team, and is expected to be fully fit in approximately 4-8 weeks time.”

Welcome to Liverpool FC, Alberto!

Aquilani signs 5-year contract

  1. I think the reason he kept getting injured at roma, was because they kept rushing him back, i think the liverpool physios are better equiped then the roma ones, so i dont think he will be as injury prone as he was at roma. at least i hope he wont

  2. What a gamble to take???
Anyway its done now and we can only hope it works well for us and him!!!
We need another top buy soon otherwise nothing has changed apart from loosing our best midfield player and a great full back in Arbeloa
Some would say we are now weaker????
Off to Anfield soon to see THE MIGHTY REDS .another Sold Out game as per usual.Could have sold 120,000 tickets!!!
    Best fans in the world.

  3. why rafa not buy a fit player than buying one fron hospital? now tell me who will pair with mascherano? Lucas? no way! his legs are dead.

  4. Time will prove that Aquilani worth that 20mil or not. A footballer with that price tag 20mil cannot produce a higher quality football game, then it was Rafa biggest mistake investment. So hopefully, Rafa can prove us that he was right this time too. Still, I believe in Rafa bringing sucess to Liverpool.

  5. There is always some risk when a new player signs so we’ll just have to wait and see how good or bad he is!!.Until then we should play Gerard and Benayoun in the middle with Mascherano in the holding position which is what he does best.

I hope that the rumours of Lucas leaving us are true because frankly the boy has always failed to impress.

  6. Time for Lucas to get the run he needs in the side, If he fails after such a run then yes it’s time to let him go. Alberto needs to not rush himself back to fitness, We have to realise Roma have been doing that to him. Stand up Lucas we will be watching!!!!!!!

  7. I didnt realise he was going to be out for that long, i just hope he can get himself fully fit and in form quickly.
Great player and i cant wait to see him playing in a Liverpool shirt.

  8. There’s alot of games in the opening of the season lets hope Gerrard can win em all single handed in the midle of the park as we know Useless Leiva wont help much

    • To add to ‘useless Leiva’, we have Mascherano, Benayoun, Riera, Kuyt and Babel who can help win the midfield battle.

  9. J.A. Riise says;; Riise knows all about adapting to life in England after spending seven years at Anfield – and he believes his Italian friend has all the qualities necessary to succeed.

“When I first came to Roma, I didn’t know a thing about Aquilani,” said Riise, who swapped Merseyside for Rome last summer.

“I knew all about Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi and Philippe Mexes, of course, but Aquilani was the player who surprised me the most in my first months with what he could do.

“He’s really good on the ball, with good passing, good movement, he works hard and is a good professional.

“He likes to have the ball at his feet but not because he likes to dribble, he just wants to keep the team moving. He never stands still, he’s always on the run.

“He certainly runs more than Xabi and is probably more dangerous in terms of getting in the box and trying to score goals.

“When I came to Rome he was my neighbour and helped me out a lot. He’s a good friend. Liverpool will be getting a very good player.”

Aquilani will become just the second Italy international to sign for Liverpool after agreeing personal terms to complete the move from Serie A.

Riise added: “There is an obvious difference between the Italian and English leagues. SOUNDS OK TO ME,LETS HOPE INJURY IS NOT ONE OF THOSE RECURRING THINGS THAT TAKES A SEASON TO CLEAR

    • Was expecting him to be out for a few weeks, but it is a bit long, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, I’m sure we can expect great things from Aquilani once he hits form and fitness.

      • whoa there’s a lot of replies here 😮
i think he’ll be great i he can keep fit. he’ll fit right in and i reckon he’ll do just fine in england.
i think sign silva for around £20mil (he wants to come i think) and then on the final day of the transfer window sign tuncay or kalou. tuncay can score goals (as shown last season in boro’ 2-0 pool :@) or kalou could play alongside or behind torres avec le stevie!!! 🙂
