Arby fancies Real – could Heinze swap?

Alvaro ArbeloaAlvaro Arbeloa admits he would be lying if he said he would be at Liverpool next season.

The ball is firmly in Arbeloa’s court.  We understand there is a 3 year contract on the table at Anfield for Arbeloa to sign but he has so far refused to put his pen to paper.  Speaking to Marca, Liverpool’s left back said:

“It fills me with pride that Real Madrid would look at me. I’m flattered – it’s a great project with the return of Florentino (Perez).”

“I would be lying if I said I was sure to start the season with Liverpool.”

It seems clear that Arbeloa is waiting for an offer that is acceptable to Liverpool. The player’s contract is due to expire next summer and he could sign a pre-contract deal for nothing from January.

And Liverpool could make a deal with Madrid which includes Gabriel Heinze.  Liverpool will be looking to replace Sami Hyypia in some way this summer and we may elect to take the option of the player plus cash for Arbeloa. The Times reports that the reds and Chelsea have joined Spurs in looking at the player.

Rafa unsuccesfully tried to land Gabriel Heinze in 2007 when Manchester United refused to sell the player to Liverpool.

Arby fancies Real – could Heinze swap?

  1. I do not agree with hillcrestedred, arbeloa did a good job for liverpool last season and johnson is not all that better, the only reason liverpool bought johnson was to increase the english players in the side. Paying what they paid for Johnson was not a bargain, i would pay that for a good striker and keep arbeloa any day.

  2. Arbeloa is a weak link at Liverpool and is one of the weakest fullbacks to don the Pool jersey.Johnson is a good buy.Heinze is just as bad as Arbeloa………and so injury prone.

  3. I don’t think we’ll really miss Alvaro besides it seems that the boy is a bit homesick. It’s the dream of every Hispanic and Latin player to eventually represent Real Madrid though i doubt he’ll get many starts because the club is more of a circus then anything else.

Chelsea always seem to follow up on any player we seem interested in with Heinze being the latest one. He’s an average player at best.

  4. I agree with Billy about Steven Darby, it would be great news for him if Arbeloa leaves, especially since Degen always seems to be injured. No disrespect to Arbeloa, hes a great player, you dont get in the Spain squad for nothing, but he wont have a chance in Champions League games with the new rules which means Johnson will get more chances to impress.
As for Heinze though, i dont think so. If we could have got him 2 years ago then maybe. We need younger players to challenge Agger and Skrtel because Heinze wont be able to dislodge either of them i dont think, even at left back, it would take an injury to Aurelio for him to get a game in my opinion, and we have Insua aswell who looks impressive.
So if we do sell Arbeloa i think we should take the full amount of money if Heinze is the only swap option.

  5. The way Ramos played last night I think Arby has a good chance for the Spain squad or even Real if we get a good offer and he also wants to go.

I understand with Johnson in, Arby won’t get a look in during euro games especially and he if does leave, this give Steven Darby a great chance to get some first team games.

  6. Dear Alvaro Arbeloa you really served a lot at Anfield. Now I respect your decision, but why real Madrid? Are you looking for acting as back servant to Ramos? Please stay and work with Liverpool, if possible for your sake.
