Carlsberg told to pay a sensible price

Carlsberg and LiverpoolMany Liverpool fans will probably consider that Carlsberg have had Liverpool’s shirt sponsorship ‘on the cheap’ in recent years.

Adidas recent comments that Liverpool FC sold more football shirts worldwide than anybody else, including the likes of Real Madrid, certainly agrees with that theory.

Carlsberg’s present shirt sponsorship for Liverpool costs the brewer £7.2 Million a year.  The deal expires next summer.

Compare that to the whopping £80M 4-year deal that Manchester United recently signed with Aon which will begin in 12 months time.

Liverpool have had significant commercial interest from major sponsors in recent months, and the departure of Rick Parry is set to only improve Liverpool’s commercial awareness.  Early reports suggest that Carlsberg will offer the club £10 M a year but the Liverpool hierachy believe this is still a substantially underweight offer for one of the biggest names in world sport.

Carlsberg have until July 2009 to exclusively arrange a further contract extension, after which time Liverpool can start discussing the options with other companies.

Chelsea have had a £10M deal a year for the last 4 years and are also believed to be looking for a figure nearer £20M a season when they renegotiate their deal.

Have Carlsberg paid too little for Liverpool sponsorship? How much is our shirt sponsorship worth? Who would you like to see the club associated with?

Carlsberg told to pay a sensible price

  1. I can’t imagine a shirt without the cute calsberg writing on it that makes our kit the most beautiful kit on the planet.

  2. Carlsberg can shove it !

What we want is our own logo. Barcelona has UNESCO which they paid for the right to wear. That is in true keeping with their fans and the principals that lie behind the club.

We are a generous group of fans, our heritage is one of welcome and support for those who need it most.

Why can’t we support a cause that needs us which we could change every year if we so decided.

The RNLI has sod all and is manned by volunteers ?

Lets do something that will bind the fans and the clubs philosophy together.

  3. would love to see crown paints back on the shirt we enjoyed great success in the past would be great to lift the title again with crown paints as our main sponser

  4. Nuff of the boozers name on our shirts!.Time to upgrade the image to something more modern and fashionable!.Methinks some electronic firm or a fancy airline name would do nicely!

  5. If we could get away with it I would prefer no sponsor. I like the plain red shirts we wear when we play in France.

If not then someone local, if such a company exists.

  6. I really dont mind who we have on the front of our shirts aslong as its a big, respectable company. I had absolutely no idea that Carlsberg payed so little, £7.2million is pathetic. Surely our shirt sponsorship is worth a hell of a lot more than that, especially since Liverpool shirts sell the most worldwide for Adidas. So unless Carlsberg substancially improve their offer we should look elsewhere, £7.2million is insulting really.

  7. I think liverpool is one of the clubs that has stayed long on a brand of shirt sponsorship. For me Carlsberg on liverpool shirt look nice and cute. unlike other clubs AIG/ SAUDI TELECOMS, EMIRATE, SAMSUNG. The secret why Liverpool sold more jersey than the rest is because, a fan can wear four years ago liverpool jersey and still look like a valid jersey co’s it is branded with same Carsberg, unlike Manutd AIG branded jersey that will look foolish next season when SAUDI TELECOMS take over.
All Liverpool need to do is to make them see reasons why they need to pay sensible price for the jersey. I bet you many lads like me don’t know Carlsberg until they branded liverpool jersey. They should be willing to pay 15mils for the first year, 18mils for the second year and 20mils for the rest years the contract will expire.

  8. I think it’s time for a change and we should be looking for a new sponsor. Something to freshen up our kits and more importantly brings in much needed revenue for Rafa to spend.
