Johnson agrees Anfield deal

Glen Johnson - LFCGlen Johnson is due to complete his transfer to Liverpool today after agreement was confirmed by Liverpool Football Club with both the player himself and the club.

The 25 year old right back is expected to complete a £17 million transfer in a move which is likely to herald the departure of Alvaro Arbeloa back to Real Madrid.

It is believed that Johnson will sign a 4 year deal with the club, and Johnson eventually rejected a move to Chelsea, his former club.

Last night the club released the statement:

“Liverpool confirm they had reached an agreement with Portsmouth and with Glen Johnson for the transfer of the player to Anfield.”

The player underwent a succesful medical on Sunday and the arrival has only increased the media speculation that one of the midfield duo will be leaving to fund the transfer. Johnson is likely to be handed either squad number 3 or 4.

In our online poll, 93% of Liverpool fans were in favour of the move, however just over 55% felt the fee was too high.

Johnson agrees Anfield deal

  1. I want us to sell lucas leiva, andrea voronin and alvaro arbeloa so we can earn more money to go for the signing of David villa.

  2. we should sell masch (not that i want to) for around £35-£40mil and sign david villa with that money
if he doesnt come sign aguero or huntelaar and david silva with it:) in the words of a wise meercat… simples! 🙂

  3. I agree with Felix completely, Johnson is a class player and he offers more going forward aswell, remember the England match recently. I dont think the price is too high, we do only have to pay out £10mill afterall, and another Englishman, finally!
As for Owen though, i dont think so. We need a young striker with great potential for years to come, Agbonlahor is definately an option. Anyway knowing Rafa he’ll probably look to Spain first which is fair enough.

  4. I agree with Felix but 17m minus the 7m Pompey owe us for Crouchy, 6-8m for Arbeloa and business is good AND we are getting an Englishman that’s why the price is quite high, just look at what Barry would have cost last year i for one am glad they didn’t go any higher for the Gareth “money grabber, i want to play in Europe” Barry. We do need a strike partner for Torres with some quailty and goal scorring ability, Let’s have Owen back on a £50k a week or bid for Agbonlahore.
    Come you Reds.

  5. Awesome news! Despite what certain ‘fans’ think, Johnson brings pace, power, energy, width and no little skill down our right flank. He will complement the hard working qualities of Dirk Kuyt. Is 17m alot to pay for a RB? We’ll soon find out. Now for a quality second striker/attacking midfielder and we are sorted!
