Ngog hoping for more first team action

Ngog Leeds

David N’gog was ecstatic about his midweek goal at Leeds which helped Liverpool move one stage further than they did last year in the Carling Cup.

Liverpool are the record winners of the League Cup, with 7 trophies in the cabinet, and using squad players will be hoping to progress back to a final for the first time since 2007.

The French striker himself said:

“It was a very important goal for me for my confidence and because we won the game.

“I think I played okay. The intensity of the game made it difficult and I was very happy to score.

“Of course I know that I’m not going to play every game so when the coach gives me a chance, I want to do my best for the team and try to score.

“I know I have to be patient and all I can do is when I get a chance, try and take it and show the manager what I can do.

“I hope I have done that in this match and shown the manager my qualities and that I can be another possibility in attack.”

Meanwhile Benitez seemed to suggest that David may still have to improve to be given a chance in the reds more important Premier League fixtures.

“He is a young player, but he has quality.

“That is something we knew. He showed character.

“He was trying to keep the ball and get into positions. He was really tired at the end but he did a fantastic job.

“He knows the Premier League is very difficult but here he showed he can do it.

“Cup competitions are always very difficult. You have to win, everyone is working so hard.

“He is still a young player, he has quality.”

There is no question that Liverpool definitely need a back up striker who can put the ball away.  Considering the time on the pitch, N’gog has a relatively impressive scoring record for Liverpool.  The experience of Tuesday night, occupying the sole forward role that Liverpool are currently playing will have only been good for his development.
