Reds make move for Sotirios

Sortirios KyrgiakosLiverpool are understood to have made a £1.5 M move to land 30 year old AEK Athens centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

With the departure of Sami Hyypia at the end of last season, and with Skrtel and Agger continuing to suffer with injury frailties, the reds need some form of 4th choice cover for the centre back slot.

The Greek international started his career with Panathinaikos before spending 18 months at Rangers. Scoring twice in the Scottish Cup Final and picking up a title medal. After two years at Eintracht Frankfurt the player returned to Greece last summer signing a 5 year deal with AEK Athens.

Sotirios made an annoucement on his own website last night saying:

“I would like to inform the fans of AEK that on Monday night I received an offer from Liverpool, an offer which I have accepted.

“I understand this has come at the worst possible time ahead of the crucial games for qualification to the Europa League, but the fact that I will play for Liverpool is like a qualification in itself for me. I have taken my final decision which was accepted by the president and the coach.”
