The rumour mill has gone in to overdrive this weekend. Thanks to all the money floating about because of Real Madrid amongst others this is not unsurprising.
Manchester United will find £80 million in their back pockets from the Ronaldo transfer and they will be looking to use some of that cash to improve their squad.
But obviously a good Man Utd story for the newspapers needs to involve Liverpool.
First off is that United will use ‘some’ of this money to fund an offer for Fernando Torres – with suggestions that he is ready to offer Liverpool £40 million for Liverpool’s striker.
A few things we would like to comment about this ‘story’ from the Sunday Express.
1. We wouldn’t sell him to United.
2. He wouldn’t want to go to United.
3. £40 million is an insult.
With that laughable story dealt with – on to David Silva. Allegedly Ferguson has instructed the long term Liverpool target to be bought by Manchester United’s Chief Executive for £24 million. This one could be interesting. We believe the player favours a move to Liverpool if Valencia finally decided to cave in and sell him.
And on to Glen Johnson – the Portsmouth right back.
There were reports yesterday that Liverpool had made a bid for the player of between £15M and £20M but we understand it is Man City who have made a concrete bid. Liverpool and Chelsea are both interested in the player and we still understand that a Liverpool purchase of Johnson would allow Arbeloa to move back to Spain.

As a united fan i admit gerrard and torres are top class players and could be said to be the best in the world in there positions, but can we please appreciate the squad that man utd have got also? after all these were the players that have won the league this year and the double last year! they have won more trophies than what gerrard will pick up already!!

Torres will never be sold to Man u or amywhere (at least not in the next few seasons anyway). Johnston would be a great signing esp if the new uefa rule about english players comes in to effect.
As it stands we have the base of an excellent squad and only really need to strengthen the squad or bring through some reserves/youth like nemeth, pacheco etc.

torres in todays market for what he has done in little under one and half seasons, as he was injury prone last year is massive he is by far the best frontman in the planet and if ronaldo is worth 80 mill then torres is worth the same if not more.

xavi, inesta, alonso, gerrard, torres, kaka, castillas, forlan, messi, mascherano, villa, ribery, those players have been in great form for the ckubs and have done it for over the last couple of seasons. yes ronaldo won the best player of the year but he was average this year, did nothing in the final v barca, messi made him look second best.

Why do we want Glen Johnson? Is he any better than Arbeloa, who at £1.8m was an absolute steal. Has the world gone crazy? Remember, this is a man that couldn’t get a game at Mourinho’s Chelsea and was sold only two years ago for £4m and now we want to pay up to £20m for him? I’m not sure about anyone else but are we mad? With our present financial situation I think we should sell nobody and buy cheap. Tuncay from Boro might be effective, and Shunsuke Nakamura from Celtic would come for a knock down fee. With hard work, commitment and a fantastic attitude, Torres demands a valuation above flamboyant and hollow Ronaldo. Behind his farcarde is a diving, moaning and selfish player.
