San Jose stagnating on loan

Mikel San JoseLiverpool’s 20 year old defender, Mikel San Jose, is playing even less football on loan than he could have done at Liverpool in the reserves set up.

The reds agreed a deal with Spanish club Athletic Bilbao in the summer for the player to spend a season on loan to gain valuable experience.  However he has been limited to a mere 7 minutes of football and either a return to Anfield or a loan deal to another Premiership club is a distinct possibility.

His agent, Jesus Medina, said:

“His patience is being pushed and if nothing chances he will leave Bilbao in the New Year.

“We do not understand Bilbao’s persistence to strike a deal over the summer if they had no plans to play San Jose.

“This situation is damaging to his career. He is a professional and does not want to cause controversy, but he is suffering at the moment.”

According to Sky Sports both Birmingham and Wolves are two clubs interested in his services.

The reds brought the youngster to the club in the summer of 2007 for a reported £250,000 fee from Athletic Bilbao.  At the time Bilbao complained about losing the player – their Chairman saying:

“For us it is bad news, but Mikel has decided on the choice of Liverpool and it was impossible for us to fight against a European giant.”

We believe strongly that the purpose of a loan for any Liverpool player is to get valuable experience at a far higher level of football than the reserves can offer.  We were disappointed to see Nemeth go on loan – but he is proving a revelation on his year away from the reserves.  Let’s hope our club intervene quickly.
