Liverpool finally snare Jose Enrique

Jose Enrique, a long term Liverpool target, is on his way to join Liverpool Football Club in a £5.5M deal.

The reds have been chasing the Spanish left back all summer long with Newcastle arguing for around £9M.  The reds however valued the player at around half the amount due to the fact he only had a year left on his contract.

With the season almost upon us the clubs have finally agreed on a £5.5M deal.

Liverpool will now be hoping they have plugged a problem area in the side.  The number of players who played at left back last year was numerous.

Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, Paul Konchesky, Fabio Aurelio, John Flanagan, Danny Wilson, Glen Johnson, Jack Robinson are amongst those who had various spells in the role.

Roy Hodgson brought in Paul Konchesky last summer to much bemusement amongst the fans, and within quite literally minutes, it became apparent that the reds had a problem on their hands.

Fabio Aurelio has a year left on his contract, and despite his abilities, has suffered with regular injuries throughout his Liverpool career.  Kenny Dalglish believes that Jose Enrique is the man to combine with Stewart Downing, and also allow the development of 17 years old Jack Robinson to continue – who is likely to be Enrique’s deputy in the position.

Jose Enrique is 25 years old, and has had spells at Levante, Valencia, Celta Vigo and Villarreal before his move to Newcastle in 2007.

Despite a number of appearances for Spain at various youth levels he remains uncapped for the senior team.

Liverpool finally snare Jose Enrique

  1. Really good signing for Liverpool, as for Newcastle, they could do a lot worse than Warnock or Insua!, hope you win a Cup.

    YNWA.

  2. Most likely one of the best LB’s in the premiership, and will continue to perform at Liverpool.
Good luck Jose, hope you get into the Spanish squad. – Well i know you will.
    From a Newcastle united fan.
