The man who brought Christian Benteke to the Premier League says that he will score 'all types of goals' for Liverpool.
Paul Lambert, the former Aston Villa manager, brought Benteke to the midlands from Genk in 2012 for around £6M. Since then the Belgian international has scored 42 times in 88 appearances for the often struggling Villa side.
He admitted that Benteke had telephoned to tell him about the news of his transfer and expressed his happiness for him:
'I think he is going to do great. Christian phoned me and I had a good chat with him. I am delighted for him, he has got a move to a really big, big club.
'I hear reports that he can only score from cross balls. Well, Christian Benteke will score for Liverpool.
The chances they create, he will score and, as Christian said, he is very good with his feet. I knew that anyway from signing him and I think he will be a terrific signing.
'He will score all types of goals. If you look at the way he plays, especially his first year at Aston Villa, where he was a phenomenon.
'He was third behind Ronaldo and Messi in goalscoring ratio. I think he is one of the best No 9s I have seen in a long time.'
The Benteke signing is expected to be announced imminently after the reds agreed to the £32.5M release clause. Half of this fee will be paid up front when the player signs a 5 year deal.
