Liverpool to face Klopp’s old side Dortmund in Europa League showdown

The two tournament favourites have been drawn against each other in the Quarter Final of the Europa League.

Fresh from defeating old enemy Manchester United, the reds have been drawn against a side closer to the clubs hearts - Klopp only left Dortmund as boss at the end of last season.

The first leg will be away at the iconic Westfalenstadion before the 'YNWA showdown' returns to Anfield for the second leg.

The two sides last met just under 15 years ago when they were paired in the same Champions League group.  The reds drew 0-0 away in Germany, before beating them at home 2-0.

The only previous official game was the 1966 European Cup Winners Cup final.  Dortmund ran out 2-1 winners that night to stop Liverpool, and Bill Shankly, landing their first European trophy.

Last season the reds had a pre-season friendly against Klopp's then side and won 4-0 with Lovren, Coutinho, Sturridge and Henderson scoring the goals.

The second leg, at Anfield, will be the day before the final Hillsborough memorial service.

Full draw

Braga (Por) v Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukr)
Villarreal (Spa) v Sparta Prague (Cze)
Athletic Bilbao (Spa) v Sevilla (Spa)
Borussia Dortmund (Ger) v Liverpool (Eng)

Ties will be played on the 7th and 14th April.

    • But if we beat them, a championship is all but done. That is, unless our recent Reds show up. Then who knows what will happen. 😛
