Match Preview – Atletico (H)

UEFA Champions League
Group Stage Game 4

Tue 4th November 7.45pm @Anfield

Liverpool face Atletico Madrid at home with a great chance of ensuring qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The reds drew away in Madrid a fortnight ago when Robbie Keane’s early goal was cancelled out late in the game.  Both sides had a goal unfairly ruled out and both sides had chances to win the game.

Fernando Torres missed his return to Madrid, and the side he used to captain, and will be hoping to be fit enough to play some part in this Tuesday’s game, most probably from the bench.

History

Liverpool have only played Atletico once before, two weeks ago.  Despite this off the field there is a connection between the two clubs.  The reds record signing Fernando Torres was brought through the ranks of Atletico, becoming their club captain, and is still idolised by their fans.

Luis Garcia moved to Atletico as part of the deal in the summer of 2007, and Florent Sinama Pongolle – another former red – is also currently at the club.
