Match Preview – Everton v Liverpool

FA Premiership
Sat 27th September 2008 (12:45) @ Goodison park

Liverpool take on Everton tomorrow in the 205th Merseyside derby (179th league meeting), desperate to keep themselves in the title race after throwing away two points last week against Stoke City.

Everton will be looking to bounce back from a 2-2 draw at Hull and being unceremoniously dumped out of the League Cup by Blackburn this week.

Everton last won a major trophy 13 years ago. Since then Liverpool have been in 16 finals, winning 11 trophies. This match has a habit of producing red cards, there have been 16 in 32 matches between the two clubs.

Robbie Keane, Albert Riera and Andreas Dossena are all set to make their derby debuts, with Robbie Keane yet to break his Liverpool duck.

History

Rafa Benited has only tasted defeat twice against Everton in his eight league encounters – both at Goodison Park. There has only been one draw in the past 4 years. The last league draw at Goodison Park was 8 years ago.

If Liverpool win, Everton will have lost three consecutive home games. They also risk plummetting as far as 14th in the league.

A Liverpool victory will send the reds top of the league again, although again possibly only for a couple of hours.

Steven Gerrard is a goal away from his 100th Liverpool goal, and Sami Hyypia could make his 300th Liverpool Premiership appearance.
