Match Preview – Everton (h)

everton-liverpoolFA Premiership
Mon 19th January 2009 @ 8pm
Anfield

After a disappointing draw the reds host Everton in the Premiership in the first of a double-header of games against their local rivals.

Depending on other results the reds may find themselves second in the Premiership by Monday evening and will be hoping to gain maximum points against an Everton side riding high and with a decent away record. Liverpool have drawn 4 of their last 7 Premiership games and while Anfield has remained a fortress during 2008, too many draws have hampered Liverpool’s charge for a record 19th title.

History

The 209th Merseyside derby is just 6 days ahead of the 210th Merseyside derby which will be played on the 25th January – in which a place in the FA Cup 5th round will be at stake.

Anfield clashes between the two clubs tend to result in more goals than over at Goodison Park, and the reds have won 39 times compared to the blues 24 in the 94 Anfield derbies.

Everton’s last victory at Anfield was ten years ago – in September 1999 – when both Westerveld and Gerrard were sent off for Liverpool.  Fernando Torres scored the only goal in the last Anfield derby in March last year.

  1. Must go all out for a win draws are no use to the Reds,or else we will start to slide even further down the table, so throw caution to the wind starting against Everton tomorrow night

  2. On Monday night we will play the Blues,
Winning 2-0 to go back to the top.
Anfield Road End will be screaming,
And there’ll be great cheers from the Kop.

Torres will strike early in the match,
And Gerrard will get on the scoresheet too.
The Toffees will not even get a shot on target,
So Papa will not have much to do.

This will be the first of 7 straight wins,
United will be shitting their pants.
This is where draws will start to become victories,
    As we take every chance.

So fans of the Mighty Reds,
Get ready to be Champions again.
2009 will separate the Mancunian boys,
    From our great Anfield men.

  3. They are riding high at the moment(blue S—e) but we coulnt play any worse than we did against Stoke.
That wont happen again on Monday so be prepared for the hardest game of the season for you blue boys.
we will have Torres back for the first time in months but without him we wil still have reserve to win the game.
