Match Preview – Middlesbrough (a)

FA Premiership
Sat 28th February 2009 @ 3pm, The Riverside stadium

Liverpool travel to Middlesbrough after their exploits in mid-week, desperate to re-ignite their Premiership title charge.

The reds have drawn 8 of their last 13 Premiership fixtures and have let Man United grab themselves a 7 point lead. Steven Gerrard managed a few minutes in Madrid, but is still ahead of schedule in his return so may start from the bench. Torres also picked up a knock in the Spanish capital and is unlikely to feature at the Riverside.

History

Of the 68 matches between the clubs at Middlesbrough, the reds have only won on 20 occasions, with Boro running out winners 26 times.

Liverpool’s recent record at Middlesbrough is abysmal. Four draws and 2 defeats in the last six matches there. The last win was a 2-1 victory in 2002 with Heskey and Riise on the score-sheet.

The reds snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Boro at Anfield earlier this season with two late goals. A Jamie Carragher goal (that’s what LFC say – although the dubious goals panel awarded it as a Pogatetz own goal) and a 90th minute Gerrard winner gave the reds all three points.

  1. Must win game this. We cant let Manurenited get further in front. At least Gerrards back but we may have to do it without Torres again. This just epitomises some of the s**t luck weve had this season, as soon as Gerrard comes back Torres picks up a knock.
