Liverpool took the lead twice, in a game that could have ensured qualification, but allowed Young Boys to equalise to set up a tricky finale in Italy.

Once again Brendan selected some of the fringe players – with Joe Cole, Assaidi and Suso  the front three players.

Straight from the kick off though Young Boys went on the offensive – a bicycle kick going just over the bar.

Pepe Reina then was called in to action to stop Nuzzolo’s shot.

An injury to Vaskovac swung the game the reds way – and the reds grew in to the game.

Andre Wisdom went off injured – meaning Steven Gerrard was sent on earlier than Brendan would have hoped – Henderson and Downing, two of Liverpool’s most expensive signings in recent years now both playing as full backs.

It was Jonjo Shelvey who grabbed the reds opened – Suso and Cole involved in the goal.

Second half and the Swiss side grabbed their equaliser – Bobadilla firing a left footed shot in to the net.

Suarez was sent on and he applied more pressure on the opponents – and Joe Cole atoned for an earlier miss by scoring the reds second goal.

However, there was to sadly be another equalier – it was a peach of a goal from Zverotic.

Liverpool might need to win in Italy if they are to continue in this season’s European competition.
