Eljero Elia set for Liverpool?

According to the German press, Liverpool have agreed terms with the 23 year old Dutch midfielder Eljero Elia from Hamburg SV of Germany.

The former Ajax and FC Twente man moved to the German side in the summer of 2009 in a deal worth £8M.  It is understood the reds will pay around £13M to bring the player to Anfield.

At the end of last month it was understood that Juventus would capture the Liverpool target, but the player was rumoured to have been at Anfield to witness Liverpool’s victory over Bolton.  His form this season has not impressed the Hamburg coach and the player himself, who in younger years had something of an attitude problem, is also keen on a move away.

Ironically any move for Elia may bring down the curtains on Ryan Babel’s Anfield career.  The Liverpool owners have identified the player as one of a handful of individuals on excessive pay compared to their involvement on the field.

The Dutch press have backed up the link with Liverpool, however they believe that the deal is dependant upon Liverpool completing the sale of Ryan Babel first.

  1. Suarez would be sweet. I want Honda !!!!!!!!!!!!!! That cat can score. I agree somewhat about the Dutch players you mentioned but Dirk Kuyt is a great player and should not be mentioned with those others. He may be tired from injury and the world cup. I realize his form of late hasnt been his best but Kuyt is genious.

  2. Don’t know much about this Elia guy but after Kuyt, Babel and Kromkamp or whatever his name was i am not very keen on these overrated and overpriced Dutch players.

I’d like to see us bring in Ronaldinho who is still young and talented. If he can recapture his old form then we’d be on to a winner who will take us places only that the defensive minded Hodgson probably won’t consider such an option.

  3. 1, just heard from my mate who works at spurs that they have put a bid in for Suarez !
2, i do not know more than that and i really know this is true because he is a accountant who has worked there for 12 years.
3, if we didnt or may have tried to get suarez, i will be so angry that yet again anotherplayer that would do wounders for Liverpool has gone to spurs.
3, why are we paying 13 mill for a player that is unkonw in the english league when for 2- 3mill more we can try and get mr A young?

    • I hope you havn`t just got your mate the sack….. a very reliable source would have done, By the way I agree about Suarez
