Swansea take the lead in signing reds midfielder

Swansea City have met Liverpool's £6M asking price for Jonjo Shelvey with other clubs still in the hunt.

The 21 year old Londoner has failed to secure a first team place at Liverpool and with the reds set to make a £4M profit the reds are prepared to cash in.

Swansea City have been on a buying spree ahead of the new season, and with European football on offer and regular first team football - could offer Jonjo the move he wants.  The Guardian reported last night that they had met Liverpool's asking price after an initial bid of £4.5M was rejected.

However West Ham are also expected to match the bid, and Norwich and Crystal Palace are also interested in the player.

Jonjo is now free to discuss personal terms with the Swans which could see a move tied up before the weekend.
