Liverpool travel to Brighton with the opportunity of re-establishing a 7 point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The reds have started 2019 with two defeats - firstly against Man City and then a 3rd round FA Cup exit against Wolves.  However the club remain at the top of the Premier League and hope to get the show back on the road this afternoon.

With a central defensive injury crisis, Fabinho keeps his place in the side with the return of Virgil van Dijk who is playing his 50th game.

LFC Starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Fabinho, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane, Salah.

Subs: Mignolet, Milner, Keita, Moreno, Origi, Matip, Camacho.

Earlier result

FT: West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal seemingly intent on gifting away any hopes of landing a top four spot.

15:00 UK

We are underway! Come on the reds!

15:09 UK

7' Alexander-Arnold not moving quite as smoothly.  Appears he picked up a bit of a knock in the warm-up.

He's high up the pitch but he's had his hand on his thigh a few times.

Good shape so far from Brighton.

15:11 UK

9' Great chance there.  Swinging cross from Andy Robertson right into the area.

It goes behind Mane and in comes Firmino with a lunge - he gets the faintest of touch - any more and he puts that away.

15:12 UK

Liverpool on the front foot here - Shaqiri involved inside the area and at the second chance he just drags the ball over the goal line for a goal kick.

15:17 UK

16' Glenn Murray in space in the middle of the area, he heads the ball but puts it over.

15:18 UK

17' Think Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to be coming off here and Milner on.

15:20 UK

19' Shaqiri free kick from the left hand side is cleared.  Andy Robertson was fouled for that set-piece.

15:24 UK

23' We're at the half-way point of the first half.

Liverpool dominant in possession but chances have been limited.  Brighton operating a very good defensive shape and going for the counter-attacks.

Trent A-A still on the pitch.

15:25 UK

24' Liverpool free kick and van Dijk claims he was shoved to the ground there.  Play continues.

15:27 UK

Replays showed that Lewis Dunk did have hold of van Dijk's arm from that corner kick (not free kick).

Probably not enough in it for a penalty shout.

15:28 UK

27' Nothing wrong with Trent there - great cross in to the area and it's a header from Xherdan Shaqiri.  It goes narrowly wide.

LFC's best chance so far.

15:41 UK

40' It was a narrow 1-0 victory in the home game v Brighton earlier this season and this doesn't look like it's going to be a high scoring game either.

Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy having another good game at the back for the home side.

Locadia thought he was in there for Brighton, but he was flagged offside.  They are a danger on the counter-attack.

15:45 UK

43' Montoya foul on Andy Robertson right in front of the assistant ref.

Still no shots on target for Liverpool although they've gone close a couple of times.

15:47 UK

Brighton 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool dominant in possession but Brighton's defence held up very well in that half.

How do the reds make the breakthough whilst being careful of the counter-attack? That's Jurgen Klopp's job as he heads down the tunnel.

16:01 UK

We are back underway....

16:03 UK

False start from kick off.  Firmino in the opposition half.

Second time it's all legal!

Trent Alexander-Arnold is back out for this second half so any issue mustn't be too significant.

16:04 UK

To Liverpool

16:06 UK

Mo Salah sticks in the penalty to give Liverpool an early second half lead.

16:09 UK

Drilled in with power and accuracy.

Mo Salah scores his 14th goal in the Premier League and it's the reds 50th of the season.

16:13 UK

57' Liverpool looking a lot better in this second half - especially since after that goal.  More fluidity and now of course Brighton have to come out and look for a goal.

Warning though - Brighton have scored in every home game this season.

16:15 UK

58' Huge chance for Brighton - ball fed from wide and Gross smashes it from about 10 yards out.

Fabinho with an important block.

16:24 UK
Double sub for Brighton

66' Glenn Murray and Solly March off, Florin Andone and Anthony Knockaert on.

16:25 UK

68' Brighton upping their involvement.  Trent A-A heads a clearance away and it's a shot from Brighton.

It was going wide but Alisson saved to be sure and put it behind for a corner.

16:26 UK

And they earn a corner from the other side of the pitch...

16:26 UK

But that one was marshalled out by the Liverpool defence.

16:28 UK

72' Klopp makes his first change.  James Milner is on for Xherdan Shaqiri.

16:32 UK

75' Ferocious shot unleashed from Firmino and it rebounds off David Button and out for a throw-in!

16:35 UK

78' Final sub of the day for Brighton.  Pascal Gross replaced by Beram Kayal.

16:37 UK

81' Good work from Mo Salah - it falls to Wijnaldum who fires his shot wide.

16:41 UK

84' Anthony Knockaert leads with the arm into the face of Roberto Firmino.

No card given but Firmino's okay.

Stadium announced has just revealed today is a record attendance at this stadium.

16:45 UK
Oh Mo!

88' Cutback from James Milner and Mo Salah just doesn't put his foot through it

Could easily have been 2-0 to the reds there.

16:45 UK

89' Virgil van Dijk on the deck after coming off worse in a challenge there.

16:46 UK

90' Mane goes off and is replaced by Keita.  Van Dijk back up and in action.

16:47 UK

Four minutes to be added on.

Liverpool with a slender 1-0 lead against Brighton for the second time this season.

16:50 UK
Final sub

90+3 Origi on for Salah. Last few seconds.

16:52 UK

Seven points clear for the reds

Brighton 0-1 Liverpool

16:58 UK

Thanks for joining us.

Two home games up next for the reds.  Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
