Mercenary Neill won’t halt Warnock departure

Roberto AyalaLucas Neill, who a couple of months ago was proclaiming himself a ‘Liverpool fan’ appears to have decided that joining relegation-candidates West Ham United with the promise of a few extra thousand of pounds a week is a far more sensible footballing decision than joining us.

Many Liverpool fans will be breathing a huge sigh of relief is this is the truth, the last thing we need is another mercenary at the club. However, Liverpool still appear to be in negotiations with Blackburn over the transfer of Stephen Warnock to Ewood Park for a figure just under £2 million.

The English left back has found himself third in the pecking order behind John Arne Riise and Fabio Aurelio. Blackburn appear ready to offer the player a shot at some first team football, and nobody can deny Warnock the opportunity.

Intriguingly, Lucas Neill’s mercenary activities could have opened the way for long-time Benitez target Roberto Ayala to knock at the Anfield door. The player will be out of contract with current club Valencia and no contract appears to have been offered one of Rafa’s former stars. His agent has suggested that talks with another club are at an advanced stage and the player will sign a new deal elsewhere within weeks if Valencia continue to stall.

It may well be positioning on behalf of the player’s agent, but Rafa has made no secret that if Ayala fancied the move to England, that he would want to manage him once again.

  1. Roberto Ayala???To Liverpool???He should have been signed when he left Milan 7 years ago. He’s one of the best defenders in the world but he’s too old to play in premiership. We’ve got Hyypia also 34 and he’s struggling with the pace!!Also remember Pellegrino was a flop even though he’s highly rated.Wait atleast till contract runs out and get him free!

  2. Who cares lets see what happen if West Ham get Relegated hope damn it i hope they do. Who care about him we will have Harry Kewell back soon.

  3. I for one am happy that Neill did not come. I really have no idea what the fuss was over and whay we have been chasing him for months. He’s a liability, giving away panalties and getting too many reds. He would disrupt the back four. Clearly he is a mercenary, how else can you explain him joining a team that will be, barring a miracle, in the Championship next year. On that note of baffling targets. Mascherano? Eh, why? He clearly cannot make it in England, with he amount of trouble we are going through to get him you’d think it was Ronaldinho.

  4. Not surprising at all, he’s at a club with a good manager and they look to be going places.
He’s obviously looking a move away because Blackburn can’t satisfy his over inflated option of what he is worth.
Fair enough he’s become captain of the club but it just shows the character (or lack of) of the man.

  5. As an Aussie and Liverpool supporter, im disgusted in Lucas Neil and his mercenary way’s..Good riddance and Hopefully West Ham get relegated…
