Scouse duo sign ‘contracts for life’

Steven Gerrard and Jamie CarragherLiverpool FC travelled to Athens today ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League final – boosted by the signing of both Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard on extended contracts.

The massive news, ahead of the clash, guarantees the two local superstars will remain at Liverpool for the best years of their footballing careers.

George Gillett, the reds new co-chairman who is already in Athens, has been amazed to see first hand both Jamie and Stevie’s influence on the club:

“You know, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I’m sure there are other situations – I’m just not familiar with them – where you get two young men who come from the same area, who came in to the programme through the Academy at nine years of age, who have with with the club all these years and who have become such an integral part of the club than they are now. Not only integrated in to it but they lead by example and by intellect and energy.”

“When you are close to the pitch you hear it. You know we have the benefit of having two extraordinary leaders out there at the same time – one in midfield and attack and the other at the back.”

“Damn few clubs have that!”

The news is superb as we head in to the final, and George Gillett has proven that he has the aspirations we all share by pinning these two down on new contracts.

  1. would just like to say a big well done to both players on their decision to stay at one of the most up and coming clubs in the premiership, things are looking better and better by the day at liverpool football club and i hope this continues to be the case in tomorrow nights final. I am so pleased that Steve and Jamie are here to stay, c’mon the reds!!!!

  2. Just seen the news confirmed on telly (Sky) and to say I was overwhelmed would be an understatement it brought me close to tears. This move by Liverpool’s own can only be a good omen for Wednesday and every new campaign for 07 onwards.

I hope now this gives the signal to the rest of the LFC players to set out their stalls and show their true colours before the axe is welded!!!

    Southern Red

    ps Well done George!

  3. Well done George! That’s a really shrewd move. I’d never thought of it quite like that before but he’s right – we are so lucky to hav e2 leaders on the pitch of equal status and quality.
    Got any spares George????
