Skrtel facing long lay-off

The results of Martin Skrtel’s initial scan confirmed many Liverpool fans worse fears that the player has damaged his cruciate ligament, arguably the second most serious injury a footballer can sustain after decapitation.

The damage is to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee but the full extent of the damage will not be assessed until he meets a specialist tomorrow.

Whilst this is bad news, there is a small amount of hope as damage to the posterior ligament tends to be less severe than the anterior ligament.

Either way the player faces a lengthy lay off.

Get well soon Martin.
