Pepe Reina signs in for 6 more years

A month after announcing his intention to stay at Anfield, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Pepe Reina has signed a new Liverpool contract keeping him at Anfield until 2016.

The player is effectively committing his career to Liverpool Football Club – he will be almost 34 years old in 2016.

Rafa Benitez moved quickly to snap up the keeper in the summer of 2005 for £6M, and many reds fans have tipped him to become the reds best ever goalkeeper.

In recent weeks his commitment and passion off the pitch have been praised by both Rafa Benitez and Steven Gerrard.  When asked a few weeks back about his contract talks, Pepe said:

“Why commit? Because I am happy here and I think the club is happy too. I see no reason to leave.”
