Gerrard season’s could be over as surgery looms

Liverpool are likely to bring forward Steven Gerrard's planned shoulder surgery ending his season.

Steven Gerrard celebrates scoring penalty against Tottenham

The reds had hoped to wait until the end of the season but the player has been struggling with the injury for a number of months and Liverpool believe surgery now would give him the best opportunity of returning fit and well for pre-season training.

The reds have two more Premier League games - away at Fulham and at home to QPR - but our current league position, 7th, looks set to be the final league position irrespective of results.

If the operation goes ahead, Gerrard will also miss the friendly pencilled in for the 21st May - when Liverpool will travel to South Africa for an end of season warmdown against Ajax Cape Town.

  1. A younger Gerrad would have played on with the injury right up to the two England friendlies coming up after season closes. It is about time Stevie learnt that the club comes first. The hack with England and the FA. Looks like Liverpool has pressured Stevie into an earlier operation so that he will be back for start of the season. May miss most of preseason though. The FA can make looney the captain for the two friendlies or offer it to ex captain John Terry, who will avail himself immediately for England.
