Funes Mori apologises over Divock Origi tackle

The day after the night before and Funes Mori has offered his apologies for his challenge on Divock Origi.

The Liverpool striker was stretchered off after the stamp on his ankle, whilst the red carded Everton player inflamed tensions by gesturing towards his badge in front of Everton's away support.

The reds were on top before the sending off and the red card meant the last 40 minutes were effectively a training game for Liverpool who did add two further goals to the scoreline.

The Argentine said:

"I very much regret what happened.

"It was never my intention to harm a rival and I fervently hope it's nothing serious."

He made the statement on his twitter account.  His red card means he will now miss Everton's semi final appearance in the FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp did indicate that the injury was not, as it first appeared, a broken ankle but with scans due there is likely to be some ligament or muscle damage.

With four weeks remaining of the season, even a less severe injury is likely to end the season for the Belgian international striker who has been in a rich vein of form for Liverpool in recent months.
