While some of Liverpool's squad were involved in World Cup action at the weekend, 22 of Liverpool's players enjoyed their first warm up game in the Cheshire sunshine.

There was little surprise in the result, a 7-0 win for the reds, against National League North opposition.  But a near full capacity crowd were on hand to witness two new red signings alongside the traditional pre-season youngsters in action.

Fabinho was part of the first half team, with Keita getting his opportunity in a completely changed second half line-up.

Harry Wilson did his stake for more involvement no harm with two goals in his 45 minutes, whilst Ryan Kent grabbed a goal in his second half display.

Two men linked with Liverpool exits, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings added 3 goals between them.  James Milner converted a penalty for the other goal amongst the seven.

Returning players

Liverpool's two dutch internationals, Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum, returned to training yesterday after being given extra time off due to a post season international friendly.

Liverpool's game against Tranmere was moved to avoid a clash with the World Cup semi-final, and as a result it is unclear whether they will feature tomorrow night at Prenton Park.

Following the game against Tranmere, the reds will have a further two local games, at Bury and Blackburn respectively, before they head off on to their overseas tour of the United States.

The ongoing involvement of Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan Lovren and Simon Mignolet means that those players are unlikely to feature in any of the pre-season games - and they may not return until the Premier League season is away.

Roberto Firmino however did suffer a World Cup exit with Brazil which means he is likely to return to Melwood the week before the final friendly of pre-season, against Torino at Anfield.
