Steven Gerrard to get a rest in

Rafa Benitez has strongly suggested that Steven Gerrard will not take part in the Sunderland game on Saturday.

The captain missed England’s defeat to Germany and looks set to be given extra time to recuperate from his fractured toe. He is expected to return, at the least to the bench, for the crucial game against FC Toulouse next mid-week.

Rafa had this to say:

“We need to wait and talk with the doctor because the bone is broken and we have to see if he can manage or not for one game or if we want to risk him.”
